Obstacle Ideas

Kids can use their creativity to build a fun obstacle course in their backyard, a playground, or even on a sidewalk, driveway or parking lot.

With just a few simple items such as:

  • String or yarn
  • Cups
  • Chalk
  • Sticks

Kids can create challenges like those in the indoor class including:

Tube crawling, Rock leaping, Log hopping, and Powerstations. We’ve even included some outdoor-only ideas.

Choose your challenges

  • Tube crawling
  • Rock leaping
  • Balancing
  • Log hopping
  • Zig zag run
  • Power station

Plot your course

Are there things you need to plan around such as monkey bars, ropes, or concrete?
If so, start with them and plan everything else around them. It’s helpful to draw your course on paper first. Be sure to include a power station. Click here for a sample layout and power station ideas.

Build your course

Using the materials you gathered, build your course. Click here for examples of ways to build various challenges.

Race your course

Go through your course as fast as you can. You can even time yourself and see how much you improve.

Use your imagination to build a different course each time.
